These crafts really will test your nerve as you tackle some serious white-water, all safely under the instruction of your experienced and qualified guide. The ultimate white water experience for the ultimate adrenaline rush!
No previous experience required, just an appetite for fun. For those that show ability, we can push the limits. Pick your partner wisely, as these boats are usually paddled in pairs!
We need plenty of water for these trips, so we make use of the dam releases on the River Garry (up to grade 3 water) on most Thursdays and various Saturdays throughout the summer.
For last minute bookings, please give us a call and we can check the conditions of other local rivers, which also deliver incredibly exciting trips.
About the trip
After checking out your experience (if any) and your water confidence, we get kitted up and you will be given instruction on how to control your craft and stay safe in a dynamic white-water environment. In the morning we practice controlling the craft on Grade 1 water and build confidence on more bouncy Grade 2 rapids. You will then get to paddle more powerful Grade 3 water to give you a flavour of what to expect for the rest of the day.
We will then shuttle back up-stream with all the equipment. There will be time for you to eat your packed lunch whilst as a group, we plan the afternoon.
Option A) If you and your group loved the morning and don’t want to tackle more challenging water, we can re-paddle that section.
Option B) If your group are showing ability and would like to experience more Grade 3 action, we can do a stretch of river with continuous Grade 3 white-water. This section has big, bouncy waves to charge through, stoppers to surf on, and ramps to slide down. Our kayaks are half the size of rafts used by other providers but double the fun.
White Water Grading’s are as follows:
Grade 1: Gentle rapids (all routes through the rapids work)
Grade 2: Bigger and bouncy rapids (most routes through the rapids work)
Grade 3: Big and powerful rapids (requires specific routes to be made)
Grade 4: Expert territory and only suitable for paddlers with extensive knowledge of controlling crafts and understanding water hydrology (must make routes)
Grade 5: Seriously powerful and confused white water with must make routes. Mistakes in this environment can lead to serious injury
Trips start at 10am and last approximately 4-5 hours. We will provide advice on what to wear and details about meeting spots with your booking confirmation. All safety kit and wet suits will be provided.
Your trip is exclusive and tailored to your group, please let us know on the booking form if you would like an earlier or later start as we can be flexible.
If you feel the Grade 3 section will be too challenging for your group, we can recommend the full day trip on the exciting Grade 2 River Oich. This river can be paddled with inflatable kayaks or canoes, and is located just down the road from the River Garry. Please specify this on the booking form if you feel this would be more appropriate.
